The last jury case tried was a damage suit brought by Lee Thompson against the Revolu tion cotton mills. The plaintiff lost four fingers in oDerating machinery while in the employ of the defendant company and sued for $5,000. The jury awarded him. $600, or $150 for each linger lost. Attorneys ior me defendant gave notice of an appeal to the Supreme court. The next term of-court, which will be for the trial of criminal cases only, will convene on Monday, September 18. John Grady, a white man of Rev olution, ,ls in jail awaiting trial to answer the charge of shooting Tom Amos Sunday. It appears that the two men bet on the correctness of their watches, each one putting up his timepiece as a forefit. After Grady had paid the bet by turning over his watch, he accused Amos of trickery and a fight ensued. Grady went to his home later and armed himself,, and when Amos passed firea upon him. Governor Kitchin was the honor ed guest of the Eno tribe of Red Men Friday night and delivered an eloquent addess before a large au dience in the auditorium of the Rev olution graded school. He was in troduced by Mr. E. Sternberger as "our present honored governor and next senator from North Carolina." Governor Kitchin spoke on the broad subject of "Fraternalism'' and charmed his hearers by his logic and eloquence. In the beginning he said the secret order had its incep tion in the extreme need of small bodies of men and women devoted to unpopularr causes such as the early followers of Christ in Rome un der the persecution of the Emperor Nero.
